CHARACTER: Name: Noah Matthieu Aronowitz
Age: 28
D.O.B.: February 14, 1981
Place of Birth: New York, New York
Physical Description: It isn’t hard to tell that Noah got most of the ‘masculine’ genes of the two Aronowitz brothers. He stands at an even height of 6’0”, and has the mass that Gideon seems to be lacking with most of his 210 pound frame being toned muscle. His eyes are a clear, deep shade of blue – one that could rival that of an ocean’s depths. His hair is just about the same color as his brother’s, though his contain more shades of chestnut and bronze in comparison to the lighter strands that drape down past Gideon’s forehead. He has a smile that could light up a room…when he actually decides to smile at all. It isn’t that he isn’t a happy guy, because he is for the most part, but most of the time you’ll usually get a smirk…if you’re lucky enough to even get that.
Personality:
It’s really hard to describe Noah’s personality, since it’s a little different depending on the person he’s around. For the most part, he’s a snarky bastard who, if it were possible, would have the ability to quip someone to death – something that helps make him a great detective. He doesn’t get intimidated easily, and when he knows someone is pussyfooting around a question, he’ll find a way to backtrack, maybe make a few jokes, and then re-word the question he had before to try and get them to answer it. This tactic usually works for the smarter criminals, or the smarter inhabitants of the city who know how to get away from a detectives interrogation. He has the ability to switch back and forth between ‘good cop’ and ‘bad cop’, but much prefers the latter when it’s a case he’s passionate about.
Noah is also as protective as they come. He’ll be the first to jump to someone’s defense if he sees they’re being cornered or attacked, whether it be verbally or physically, and doesn’t give a damn if the other person is worried about their ‘pride’ being hurt by getting help from someone who could very well be a stranger. He does, however, try not to get himself too involved in Gideon’s battles, since he knows how his brother can get, but that doesn’t mean he turns a blind eye to them. He’s extremely protective of women, or the women he knows well enough, and will go completely out of his way to walk someone home than allow them to roam the streets of Obsidian on their own…not after what happened to his sister. Not after all the horror stories he himself has had to deal with over the years, investigating the rapes and murders of countless females.
He’s pretty easy-going for the most part, and while he’s able to keep his cool when the situation calls for it, he has quite a raging temper if you are stupid enough to piss him off – something he’s learned to contain, so it doesn’t get him in trouble at work, or even in life.
Sexuality: Heterosexual
History:
Noah can’t remember a point in his life where he didn’t absolutely love being a brother. Whether it was acting the role of younger brother to Johanna, or older to Gideon, he always did his ‘job’ well. He didn’t even care that he was the middle child, and never caught the syndrome like most other children did. Maybe it was because he never had any reason for it. He was never neglected, or looked on as the less favorable child because he wasn’t the youngest or the oldest…but then again, he also had the advantage of being the first born son, which he always prided himself on. Maybe it was middle child syndrome, causing him to give himself a reason to feel important…but that really didn’t matter, since Zachariah and Adina always treated their children equally.
But damn, did they all turn out different.
Noah’s childhood was always jam packed with sports - if there was a ball for him to throw, a hoop for him to aim for, a bat for him to swing, a net for him to shoot at – he’d do it. He always favored hockey, however, and spent most of his time as an adolescent in an ice rink, skating on the smooth frozen surface, body checking anyone who got in his way. It was a way for him to get his aggression out – usually aggression that was pent up after an argument he’d get in with his parents…something that desperately needed to be done once the family moved from their home town in New York to Obsidian, all because of his father’s career.
He couldn’t even remember when he started to butt heads with his parents, but it was sometime around puberty, when he started listening to his friends more than his mother and father…because parents were always wrong, weren’t they? He didn’t want to move away from his friends, and everything he knew…but he had no choice. Before he knew it, he was sitting next to his brother and sister in the back seat of their car, driving away from everything he knew, and liked. Needless to say, he didn’t warm up to Obsidian like the rest of his family did. He’d often talk to Johanna about how much he wanted to go back home, and she was really the only person who could ever talk him down whenever he looked like he was about to explode – or when he would, and most people wouldn’t even want to approach him. Even if they did, it wasn’t like Noah would let them.
But he always opened up to her. Sometimes Gideon, but…it wasn’t the same. She always knew what to say.
Something inside of Noah snapped the day he found out his beloved sister had been murdered…and he couldn’t even cry, not until they were laying her into the ground and everything hit him at once. All the anger he had been feeling…all the sorrow of losing his sister, his best friend, came crashing down on him, and he couldn’t maintain his façade of being well put together anymore. The day of the funeral, he screamed at his father, telling him how none of this would have happened if they hadn’t moved…a speech he regrets, now that he’s older and knows what a mistake it was, to blame a parent who just lost their child for their death. The smack across the cheek he got from his mother that day didn’t even knock sense into his immature teenage mind, and from that day on he put all his energy into hockey. His grades started slipping, but thankfully his hockey playing got him a scholarship into a good college program. He decided to join the police force right about when the detective was coming to question his parents about Jo’s death. He was such a bumbling fool, and had no idea what he was talking about. Noah made it a point to get that man’s job, do it 10 times better, and find all the sons of bitches out there who had the nerve to do what was done to his sister.
And he did. Years passed, and despite the hindrance of his left eye, he was able to get through the police academy with flying colors (no pun intended). He served on the force for a good while, before he was promoted to ‘Detective’. Over the years, while maturing, he rekindled his relationship with his parents, and the bond he shares with his brother has gotten stronger than ever. He was extremely proud, knowing his kid sibling was also a fledgling Detective, and keeps an eye on him to make sure he’s doing alright.
He refuses to let someone else he cares about get hurt…and if they do, he’s going to find the fucker, and make them pay.
Special Skills/Abilities: Has exceptional aim - he probably could have been a sniper for the Marines, if he a) wanted to be in the army and b) could get into the army (he's somewhat colorblind, and they frown upon that). He can shoot a moving target with ease, and is strong enough to make it in hand-to-hand combat, but he doesn't excel in this area. It could be because if he has to kill anyone, he wouldn't want to be close enough to hear a blade cut flesh, or get the man's blood on him. He isn't squeamish like his brother, but he's no sadist, either. The only plus side he sees to close range combat is knowing the wounds he inflicts can cause pain but won't always be fatal - although having such good aim, he can do that fairly well with the revolver in his hand.
Personal Weaknesses: Colorblindness – Noah was born with Tritanopia in his left eye – meaning he lacks the ability to see Greens and Yellows. This is definitely frustrating for him at times, because a lot of evidence he needs to follow includes colors of things, and when it’s dark out, or if he’s turned the wrong way, it’s nearly impossible for him to make a definite decision about what color something is. Saying the ‘right thing’ – While Noah may be skilled with words when it comes to an interrogation, sometimes he doesn’t know what to say to make a person feel better whenever they’re upset. He can talk someone out of being scared, but depressed? That’s another story…especially if he doesn’t know the person. He is, however, an excellent listener. (See Strengths.) Not easily trusting – Because of all he’s seen, whether it be at his job, or just his personal life, it isn’t easy for Noah to become close to people. He’ll hold you at arms length until he sees you’re trustworthy enough…and if he decides you aren’t, you’re in for a shit-storm if he finds out he had good reason not to trust you. Then it’s time to run away…and fast.
Personal Strengths: Headstrong – doesn’t take shit from anyone. Unless you’re his boss, you better not even try to tell him to do anything. Even if you ask nicely, you’re most likely going to just get a stare, before he turns around and ignores you completely. Excellent listener – He may not be able to tell a person what they need to hear to cope with the fact that their father was just brutally murdered in an alleyway, or that their sister was just raped and left in a sewer, but he’ll do his best to be there for that person and give them a shoulder to lean on…since that’s all he can do for them. Loyal – Once Noah decides he likes you enough, you’ve got him on your side. He’ll stick by your side through thick and thin. He’ll get you out of a jam, and he’ll back you up…but he doesn’t like to be played. If you ever cross him, again: run fast.
